About The Burma Railway
The book and movie about a bridge across the River Kwai were based on the building of the Burma Railway, a 258 mile railroadtrack between Bangkok, Thailand and Rangoon, Burma (now Yangon, Myanmar) The Burma Railway is also known as the Thailand-Burma Railway and also "The Death Railway". It was given the latter name because of the forced labor used to built it and the thousands of Asian prisoners and other Allied Forces POW laborers who died constructing it.
